Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oil: 5 Unique Differences Between Hemp Oil and CBD Oil

On the surface, hemp oil and CBD oil may seem like they are the same thing, but they are not the same. This is mostly because they come from the same family species: the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant is from the genus Cannabis, and within the genus, there are 3 different species of the plant which include:

• Ruderalis

#1 They are Derived from Different Parts of the Plant

Although hemp oil and CBD oil come from the “same plant,” they are derived from very different parts of the plant.

• Seeds: Hemp oil is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant. It is made much like almond and olive oils.
• Flowers, leaves, and Stalks: CBD, on the other hand, is derived from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant.

#2 Hemp Oil Has Low CBD

Hemp oil has a very low CBD count. It taps in at about 3.5%. The low concentration means that Hemp oil is not going to give you the medicinal benefits that CBD would give you. Because of the low count of both THC and CBD, Hemp oil has significantly different uses as compared to CBD oil.

CBD and Hemp oil are both produced differently. Hemp oil is produced by pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. The seeds will then extract oil that can be collected and used much like other common oils including olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil, and sesame oil.

CBD oil, on the other hand, go through a more lengthy process when it is produced. The process in which we get CBD is called solvent extraction. This means a solvent like alcohol, butane, or CO2 is forced across and through the plant where it can separate the cannabinoids, terpenes, and trichomes. Then, the solvent is left to evaporate. #5 They Require Different Levels of Testing

Because CBD and Hemp oil are used for different things, the testing it goes through will be different. Hemp plants do not go through testing of THC content, but they must have testing of their fatty acids. Because hemp is typically used as any other cooking oil, it does not go under as much scrutiny as CBD.
