Today, we know how dangerous smoking is thanks to many years of research. Yet, many of us still fall into the trap of lighting up one of those sticks that can wreak havoc on our body.
Smokers inhale 1 milligram of nicotine in a single cigarette and 4 milligrams for stronger cigarettes. This is all that is needed to become addicted!
Not only is smoking bad for the smoker, but the second hand smoke is horrible for anyone around them. And, even third hand smoke from clothes can be harmful to others.
So, what about vape oil? Is this a better option? Is it the perfect way to avoid secondhand smoke?
Many of us have fallen into the rut of smoking not just one cigarette, but one to two packs a day. I personally know people who smoke nearly three packs a day.
We all know how bad cigarettes are for us, yet we keep doing it. Mostly because it is the second most addictive thing we can do aside from heroin.
Smoking is one of the hardest habits to break. But, even being a hard habit, it is important to know the facts!
- You die faster. On average, the life expectancy of a smoker is TEN years less than a nonsmoker.
- Your putting more than tobacco in your lungs. Each cigarette contains more than 7,000 chemicals. 70 of those specifically cause cancer.
- Your first cigarette starts in your teens. Did you know more than 3,200 children and teens are under 18 when they smoke for the first time?
- It causes millions of deaths per year. Smoking is responsible for FIVE MILLION deaths per year worldwide
- Many of those deaths are in the U.S. Smoking kills 1 in every 5 people annually in the U.S. alone. That amounts to 480,000 deaths per year.
- Second hand smoke kills, too. Out of the 480,000 deaths caused by smoking, 41,000 of those deaths are caused by exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Smoking leads to disease. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and lung diseases including emphysema, bronchitis, and chronic airway obstruction.
- It is preventable. Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the world. It is preventable!!

Of course, we know smoking is bad for the smoker, but what about second hand smoke. What many smokers don’t realize is how much smoking affects those around them.
According to the American Lung Association, second hand smoke is a seriously health hazard that causes more than 41,000 deaths per year.
Of course, they don’t stop there, here are more facts you need to know about second hand smoke!
- Second hand smoke causes death. Approximately 7,330 deaths are from lung cancer and 33,950 from heart disease caused by second hand smoke.
- Exposure increases risks. Long term exposure to secondhand smoke increases the risk of heart attacks.
- Second hand smoke contains chemicals. Toxic chemicals found in secondhand smoke include formaldehyde, benzene, vinyl, chloride, arsenic, ammonia, and hydrogen cyanide.
Not only does secondhand smoke wreak havoc on anyone within breathing distance, but it also effects, the workplace and children.

Secondhand smoke costs our economy over 5 BILLION per year due to lost productivity. Here are some workplace facts you need to know!
- Health is decreased for nonsmokers. Nonsmokers exposed to secondhand smoke at work have an increased risk of complications.
- It’s hard to quit if it is allowed at work. Being employed in a workplace where you can’t smoke increases the success rate of smokers trying to quit.
- Workers are exposed to hazardous levels of chemicals. Those who work in casinos specifically are exposed to extreme levels of carcinogens from secondhand smoke.
Facts on Secondhand Smoke and Children
Secondhand smoke is especially harmful to young children. Not only is it harmful, but they don’t get to choose whether they are around it or not. Here are some facts you need to know!
- It causes respiratory tract infections. Secondhand smoke causes 150,000 or more respiratory tract infections in infants and children under 18 months old.
- Secondhand smoke causes SIDS. 430 Sudden Infant Deaths happen in the U.S. annually as a result of secondhand smoke.
- Secondhand smoke causes asthma flare-ups. Over 200,000 children are hospitalized each year for secondhand smoke induced asthma flare-ups.
- It increases fluid in the ears. Secondhand smoke causes build up in the ears resulting in 790,000 doctor’s visits for ear infections in children each year.
- A lot of children are exposed. Over 20 million, or about 37% of children in the U.S. have been exposed to secondhand smoke.
With these facts and statistics, it is obvious something needs to be done about secondhand smoke. Could vape oil be the solution?
Vape Oil is Perfect for Avoiding Second Hand Smoke
It is difficult to give up smoking once you start. And, it is even more challenging to quit when it is around you on a daily basis.
With new technology on the move, many smokers have went to vaping. But, what about secondhand vape smoke? Is it safe?
Vape Oil and You
Unless you are using a CBD vape oil or vape oil without nicotine, vaping can still be hazardous for your health.
First and foremost, nicotine is a drug and a very powerful one at that. Even inhaling nicotine through vapes increases your risk of heart disease.
Research has also shown that vaping delivers toxins such as formaldehyde, nitrosamines, and lead when inhaling. Although it can be 9-450 times less than smoking a cigarette, it is still there.
Vape Oil and Secondhand Smoke
Finally, we come to the question as to whether or not vaping is safe for those around us? Is there second hand smoke?
Ultimately, there is no evidence that suggests vaping is harmful to those who are breathing in secondhand smoke.
Legitimate scientists can speculate that vapors could affect someone, but they have not been able to find concrete evidence. In fact, research points the other direction.
Igor Burstyn from Drexel University conducted a study called “Peering through the Mist.” In this study, he extracted 9,000 observations on e-cig vapor.
What he found was that there was little to no risk of bystanders being affected by the vapors being exhaled from users.
Likewise, according to the Royal College of Physicians, nicotine without smoke showed no plausible mechanisms by which deposits from the vapor could enter the body in a way that would cause harm.
There have been many other studies that show that since e-cig vapor dissipates so quickly that breathing it passively poses little to no risk to a bystander.
Therefore, vaping has become a perfect way to avoid secondhand smoke. At least for those around you.
Does that Mean You Should Vape?
Whether you smoke or vape, you should always be respectful. Not everyone wants to breathe in fruit flavored vapor.
Ultimately, unless you are vaping all natural CBD vape oil, you are still exposing yourself to chemicals and toxins.
